Modifications to Metavirtual

I’ve pretty much completed all major modifications to Metavirtual that I had on my list.  Here’s a rundown of the changes:

1. New theme. I reduced the size and amount of images on Metavirtual to reduce bandwidth.

2. Custom favicon. I did this while trying to work out excerpting.

3. Excerpting. Posts are cut at 100 words and then there’s a “read more at the source” link which opens in a new window. This one has been on my list for a while I just haven’t had the time to devote to it.

4. Advertising server: Changed from Ad rotate to openx (again). While I was very happy with adrotate #5 forced me to move to javascript based advertising. My husband could have worked out something for Adrotate but I didn’t feel like bothering him.

5. Automatic cache system. My husband customized the site to automatically cache to reduce mysql load. Effectively cut it down to where every 5 or so hits will be 1 hit to the actual mysql database. There’s more going on there but as I said, I let my husband handle it and for that my life is less stressed, heh.

6. Translation. There’s a neat little Google translation thingy.

I think that is all. You know where to find me if you want to complain. :)
